Kaulig Racing has announced its fifth driver for the upcoming NASCAR Truck Series race at Darlington.

Their unusual 'free agent' seat will be filled on March 20 by Corey LaJoie, who is driving part-time this year alongside his TV commitments.

The seat in the Ram truck will rotate between a number of drivers all year, with Tony Stewart kicking things off at Daytona before Ty Dillon took over the seat at Atlanta.

The team is running five trucks this year as the flag bearers for Ram's return to NASCAR, with Brenden 'Butterbean' Queen, Daniel Dye, Justin Haley, and Mini Tyrrell in the other four – the latter after winning the Race for the Seat TV miniseries.

LaJoie: Ram a breath of fresh air

LaJoie raced in the Truck Series for Henderson Motorsports at Daytona with little success, and had looked a good bet to qualify for the Daytona 500 for RFK Racing before an unfortunate wreck in his Duel.

In a statement announcing his entry at Darlington, LaJoie said: “It’s always fun getting to drive a NASCAR truck, especially at the track ‘Too Tough to Tame'.

"Ram’s program is a breath of fresh air into the sport, and I’m fired up to have a shot to wheel one for Kaulig Racing. This group has worked incredibly hard to get these teams going, so I’m going to give them all I’ve got to put in a great day in the office.”

Veteran sportscar racer Colin Braun returned to NASCAR for the first time in 15 years to drive the free agent car at St Pete on Saturday, securing ninth place to finish as the best of the five Ram trucks.
