Kyle Busch's family took part in an emotional tribute to the NASCAR legend during Charlotte Motor Speedway's annual Summer Shootout on Tuesday.

The motorsport world was shaken by Busch's sudden passing last month at the age of just 41, with tributes being paid by countless fellow racers and other sporting figures over recent weeks.

Busch was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history, winning two Cup Series championships and sitting in the top ten for all-time Cup wins while holding the all-time record for race wins in NASCAR's three national series.

Richard Childress Racing, who Busch was driving for at the time of his death, has confirmed that it has effectively temporarily retired his No. 8 until such time as his son, Brexton, reaches the Cup Series and claims it.

Touching family tribute at Summer Shootout

Brexton played a major part in Tuesday night's tribute at Charlotte, where his father had competed in the Master's Division of the Summer Shootout last year, waving the green and checkered flags for a ceremonial lap.

Kyle's father Tom led the field in Busch's No. 51 Legends car, with the other cars peeling off to leave him to complete the emotional lap alone on track.

Brexton will be back behind the wheel at the Summer Shootout too, as he continues his racing development.

"Thank you, everyone, for the well wishes, support, & love for my brother and our family. I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands on.

"I will forever be grateful for the memories we made, the lessons you taught me, and the brotherhood we shared."
