Kyle Busch has revealed the details of a scary injury he sustained just days before his first NASCAR race of 2026.

Much like his old rival Brad Keselowski, who is still recovering from a broken femur sustained on a family ski trip, Busch was nowhere near a race car when he got hurt. Turns out normal life is dangerous enough!

Appearing on his wife Samantha's Certified Oversharer podcast this week, the two-time Cup Series champion revealed that he needed more that 20 stitches in his leg after a bizarre household accident.

Attempting to investigate a beeping smoke alarm, Busch climbed up onto a short stool, which shattered underneath him as he reached up, but said: "I land on my feet, and I'm holding onto the walls, like I'm good, everything's fine, I'm alright."

Busch in lucky escape despite 'hospital grade' injury

That was the point at which the pair's son Braxton came out of his room and pointed out that his father was not, in fact, alright – but instead bleeding profusely from a wound in his leg.

Busch recalled: “As soon as he said, ‘You’re bleeding', I look down, and it’s not like you’re bleeding like a nosebleed. It is like pouring. Like, you’re gushing. … I’m like, ‘This is hospital grade'."

The wound got treated fairly quickly when they got to the hospital, but Samantha revealed another complication in the moment.

"They were supposed to have a PA (physician assistant) stitch [him] up, she got freaked out because they realised that Kyle was a driver, and she was like 'oh s***, I don't want to mess up his leg'. When they lifted up his leg, he's not kidding, this flap was down and it was just gushing.

"The doctor came in and after they made sure there was no porcelain in the wound, it missed the muscle by like, barely anything. And thank god, because this was less than a week out from Bowman Gray, you would not have been racing."
