NASCAR Cup Series star Bubba Wallace is entirely aware that he makes his living in one of the most dangerous sports on the planet.

The 23XI Racing driver gave a frank interview to CBS Mornings host Nate Burleson this week, in which talked about being part of Michael Jordan's NASCAR empire, and admitted that he 'fears death'.

Wallace also shared one piece of advice he received from the six-time NBA champion, namely: “If you know you're going to go into something and lose, then don't compete."

He went on to discuss his mortality in surprisingly candid fashion, admitting that death scares him more than anything else – and it remains a slim but ever-present possibility when he steps into his race car.

Wallace: We're in a dangerous sport

The Brickyard 400 winner noted his wife and family's bravery in dealing with his dangerous day job, saying: “I fear death because everything is right here. I'm enjoying life with our beautiful baby boy, my beautiful wife, our beautiful home that we just built. It's the sweet spot right now.

“Everything is just clicking. And when that's all done, that's what scares me the most. Not retiring done, but like done, done, death. You know, that's it. Climbing into the car, that is always there.

"We're doing an incredibly dangerous sport. We go, we react, and we deal with the consequences later. And I think that takes a lot of courage from my wife and my family to trust in that and know that I'm okay climbing in and it could be my last time that I never climb back out.”

Wallace will be back in his Toyota Camry this weekend at Darlington for the Goodyear 400, still searching for his first win of the season after a strong start which sees him sitting second in points.
