NASCAR team confirms groundbreaking immediate manufacturer switch to RAM

It's been a tough go for Ram in their return to NASCAR this year, running five entries in the Truck Series with Kaulig Racing to mixed success.

However, a sixth Ram truck will run for the first time at Indianapolis this weekend for a second organization – with Jonathan Shafer set to return to the track for MBM Motorsports in a Ram for the first time.

The No. 69 truck has already seen four different drivers this year, including Shafer himself when he failed to qualify at Rockingham and Nashville, and has been on entry lists this year with a Ford truck and a Toyota truck too.

After Indianapolis, the No. 69 team will have run with three constructors for four drivers at eight races in 2026. It's never boring in the MBM garage!

Confusing things slightly, NASCAR's entry list currently has the No. 69 down as a Ford entry – although MBM themselves confirmed on Monday that Shafer will be driving a Ram truck. This piece will be updated if any clarity is given.

Ram and Kaulig struggling in Truck Series

More than halfway into Ram's return to the Truck Series, the lead Kaulig/Ram truck sits 13th in the regular season standings (being driven by rookie Brenden 'Butterbean' Queen), with not a single top-five race finish for any of the organization's five trucks.

While a mid/back-half season shouldn't be a surprise for a team new to the series and partnered with a manufacturer which has had some time out of the sport, it's hard argue that results have matched the hype that the team has tried to whip up around Ram's return.

Brutally, in purely racing terms, Kaulig and Ram have been an irrelevance in their first season together.

All parties involved will be hoping that 2026's performances are just signs of growing pains, and that things will turn around by the end of the season – or at least early next year. After all, it's difficult to find and justify funding for a five-truck team if not a single one of them can crack the postseason.
