A piece of Tony Stewart's old racing wisdom has been doing the rounds again on social media, with his former team Joe Gibbs Racing posting it on social media this week.

Since Oval Insider wasn't around back in 2005 when he gave the interview, we'll dive back in time now – especially given Smoke's terrifying wreck while drag racing just months ago.

Stewart was racing NHRA world champion Doug Kalitta at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA in September when one of the cars malfunctioned and caused the two to wreck into each other, leaving the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion with a concussion.

He said at the time: "I got one hell of a headache and banged my left hand up. But I've been through Sprint Car crashes way worse than this, I'm pretty sure. We're good. We're good. We're fine. I promise we're fine."

Tony Stewart: I'd rather race than work in a cubicle

His comments appear to echo his sentiment from 20 years earlier, when he was asked how he handles the 'fear factor' of high speed motor racing.

"Easy," he said. "I mean, I think about having to get in a car and drive an hour to work each day in rush hour traffic, sit in a cubicle all day with no windows and look at a computer screen all day.

"And then I think of driving an hour back home again in rush hour traffic with people that are on cell phones, and people that aren't paying attention, and I sit here and think I'd much rather risk getting hurt getting burned in a fire doing what I love to do, and competing with the best drivers in the country, than I would have to worry about that.

"So it's very easy to overcome that fear."
