NASCAR announces new documentary featuring much-awaited Kurt Busch interview

NASCAR and USA Sports has announced a new docuseries 'NASCAR Americana', set to debut next month.

The three-part series will launch on the USA Network after the Cup Series race at Iowa on Sunday, August 9 with the first episode 'Rebel Roots', before 'Family Bonds' and 'Enduring Spirit' follow immediately after races at Richmond and New Hampshire.

The series is timed to coincide with America's 250th birthday this year, and will explore the historic sport's place in the country's story.

Among those interviewed for the documentary are four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon, as well as those who have come into the sport from careers elsewhere including Legacy Motor Club co-owner (and Grammy Award-winning musician) Darius Rucker, actor-turned-Truck Series driver Frankie Muniz, and NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, whose Omaha Productions company has a hand in the series.

Kurt Busch set to appear in NASCAR documentary

One of the most anticipated interviews, though, will come in the second episode of the show. Kurt Busch will be part of the 'Family Bonds' episode, which will feature his first sit-down interview since the tragic death of his brother Kyle earlier this year.

The teaser trailer released on Tuesday (watch below!) didn't feature that interview prominently but, given the theme of the episode and the family in question, it seems likely to be an emotional one.

Busch posted the trailer on his Twitter account when it launched, captioned simply: "Proud to be an American and to have been able to live in a free country and race in NASCAR my whole professional life. Thank you to all the service men and women who have sacrificed so much for USA."

The three episodes line up perfectly with the first three-week block of Cup Series races being shown on USA this year, before NBC takes over for the regular season finale at Daytona – then hands back to USA for the next seven weeks.
