The NASCAR season might be over, but Austin Cindric still has one huge racing event to come before the year is out.
The Team Penske star is set to compete down under this month and race in the season finale in the Supercars Championship, set to take place in Adelaide from November 27-30.
Whilst Cindric's appearance will be a wildcard entry for Tickford Racing and simply about a new experience, for others, it is their championship weekend, with Kai Allen, Will Brown, Broc Feeney and Chaz Mostert the four grand finalists set to compete for the title across the three races in Adelaide.
Having seen William Byron's tire blowout play a massive role in how this year's Cup Series title race played out, Cindric is all too aware of how outside influences can affect the championship, and he is certainly keen to not get in anybody's way next weekend.
Cindric: I don't want to influence championship
“First of all, I definitely don't want to have any effect on what happens at the end of the day,” Cindric explained to the media this week.
"You know, whether that’s causing a caution or racing guys that are at the most important part of the year that they’ve raced all year for."
The Team Penske star added: "Very aware of what's on the line, just because I've been on the other side.
"There's a ton of similarities between The Finals and our playoff system. How it's structured, what it rewards."
Cindric on 'The Finals'
Whilst many have been critical of NASCAR's playoff system, Supercars have adopted a similar system for this year, with 10 drivers ultimately being whittled down to four ahead of this weekend, which will then determine a champion.
Cindric's a fan, too: "It's been fun to kind of see this for the first time with this category. I’m a race fan. I follow along and it's been fun to kind of see,.
“Like I said, it’s a bit of an alternative universe in a lot of ways. Cool to see the excitement around it and how it's kind of pushing drivers and teams to their limits and in maybe different ways other than just standard points racing.”
