Brad Keselowski says RFK Racing re-signing NASCAR Cup Series star Chris Buescher was 'no layup' with a number of teams fighting for his signature.
Earlier this week RFK made the announcement that it had signed Buescher to a multiyear deal to continue driving the No. 17 Ford in the sport's premier series.
Buescher's team-mate and team co-owner Keselowski reflected ahead of this weekend's action in San Diego on what it means for the team, and how hard they had to fight to keep him.

Keselowski on Buescher contract
"Chris right now is obviously a cornerstone of our company. He’s delivered results," he said.
"He puts us in a position to win and compete that I’m really proud of. He’s doing all the work he needs to do to be successful. He’s taken his lumps, paid a lot of dues, and we just want to give him the best car we can give him so he can win races."
Keselowski elaborated a little on the race for Buescher's signing, stressing that this was not just RFK bidding against itself.
"There was a lot of competition for Chris and a lot of teams in the garage area that wanted him. It was not a layup for us to re-sign him, but we feel fortunate that he felt our commitment was strong enough to want to stay with us.”
Buescher is staying 'home'
The 33-year-old Buescher admitted: “RFK Racing has been home for most of my racing career, and that’s something I don’t take for granted.
“I’ve grown up with this organization, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together over the last several years. The direction we’re heading, the people we have in place, and the commitment throughout the company make me excited about the future.
Buescher is now in his 11th full-time Cup Series season, and has so far netted six wins at the very highest level.
