Michael Jordan and NBC have been discussing the possibility of him contributing to their NASCAR coverage, according to reports.

The network has been under fire since the 'special contributor' role they signed Jordan to for their NBA coverage turned out to be a single two-hour interview with Mike Tirico, cut up and aired in several parts.

Tirico himself admitted at the turn of the year that the contribution from the six-time NBA champion was 'probably not' what people were looking for when the deal was signed, although he did add: “Was it better than not hearing from Michael Jordan? You’re damn right it was."

Of course, Jordan has appeared on other networks this year – just not on their NBA coverage. FOX have spoken to him on air seven different times at NASCAR races this season, and he's also sat down with CBS for a chat about his 23XI Racing team.

Jordan back on TV with NBC?

The Athletic report that "Jordan and NBC apparently are still talking about Jordan doing some more, maybe with hoops, possibly with NASCAR."

However, the tranche of games previously on NBC have been given to USA Sports as of this year, with ten of them airing on USA and four (the summer race at Daytona and the final three races of the year) airing on NBC – but still being produced by USA. It's unclear how that move would affect NBC's ability and willingness to get Jordan on air during the relevant races.

Of course, those final few races look like they could be incredibly tense for the Chicago Bulls great – as one of his 23XI team's drivers, Tyler Reddick, is currently the runaway points leader and the bookies' favorite to win the title at Homestead-Miami in November.
