NASCAR trailblazer and former Cup Series star Danica Patrick has revealed who made the decision to end her time working on TV in a prestigious motorsports role.

Patrick had an impressive career in US motorsports during her racing days, competing in the IndyCar Series before later switching to NASCAR.

By the end of her career, the now 43-year-old had raced 191 times in the Cup Series and 61 times in the Nationwide Series (now O'Reilly Auto Parts Series), racking up a list of impressive achievements, including being the highest female finisher in both the Daytona 500 and Indy 500.

Despite a career predominantly in the States, when Patrick decided to stop racing, she turned to a punditry role in Formula 1, working for major UK broadcaster Sky Sports.

However, after five years, it was confirmed earlier this week that she would no longer be a part of the team, which broadcasts to millions in the UK and around the world.

Danica Patrick explains Sky Sports exit

Just a few days later, Patrick released a statement on her Instagram page in which she revealed who made the call to end her time being an F1 pundit.

"From my first Sky Sports F1 race in Austin to my last 5 years later… I had such a blast! she wrote on Instagram.

"The sky team was so much fun (thank you all), I saw so many amazing new race tracks and cities, and got to be part of a huge boom in F1!"

Did Danica Patrick get fired from Sky Sports?

The statement continued, with Patrick explaining that she wasn't fired from the role and that it was her own decision to step away.

"I called after the last race in 2025 and said it was time for me to move on," her statement continued. "And I was so grateful for the opportunity and experience I was given!

"Now due to my deep exposure to F1, I will be glued to my TV for the season starting this weekend, like every other fan!"
