Hendrick Motorsports has confirmed that NASCAR Cup Series star Alex Bowman has been ruled out of this weekend's race at Phoenix.
In an official team statement, Hendrick Motorsports confirmed that Bowman has been diagnosed with vertigo this week and will therefore not compete in the event in Arizona.
This comes after the driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet was forced to leave his car early on lap 71 of last Sunday's Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas after he began to feel symptoms of the condition, with Myatt Snider stepping in to replace him.
Following the event, Bowman has undergone two days of medical evaluation this week and drove laps today in a streetcar at the Ten Tenths Motor Club road course in Concord.
The team has been encouraged by his progress, but he will not be racing this weekend. Instead, Anthony Alfredo will be driving the No. 48 Chevrolet in his place.

Alex Bowman ruled out of Phoenix
“Alex has worked very hard over the last several days,” said Jeff Andrews, president of Hendrick Motorsports.
“We’re encouraged by the progress he’s making, but we have to prioritize his health above all else.
"It’s obviously frustrating for him because he’s a competitor and wants to be in the race car, especially at his home track.
"We’ll continue to support Alex and look forward to his return as soon as he’s medically cleared.”
Will Alex Bowman still be eligible for the Cup Series championship?
It all depends on NASCAR.
Hendrick Motorsports has confirmed that it will request a medical waiver to allow Bowman to remain eligible for the title.
Once NASCAR officially makes that call, we will keep you updated.
What is vertigo?
We'll defer to the experts here.
As per Medline Plus, vertigo is "a sensation of motion or spinning that is often described as dizziness. Vertigo is not the same as being lightheaded. People with vertigo feel as though they are actually spinning or moving, or that the world is spinning around them."
