NASCAR driver John Hunter Nemechek has paid a special visit to Naval Base Coronado ahead of a special 2026 Cup Series event.
NASCAR announced very exciting news back in July when it was revealed that all three national series will race at the San Diego base on a newly designed road course track next year to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy.
The naval base encompasses eight military facilities stretching from San Clemente Island to the La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility and is set to become the first active military base to ever host a NASCAR race.
The weekend in San Diego is set to be a three-day event from June 19-21, with the Truck Series headlining Friday, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series racing on Saturday, and the Cup Series in action on Sunday.

Nemechek visits Naval Base
NASCAR revealed earlier this week that Legacy Motor Club driver John Hunter Nemechek had paid a visit to the base ahead of next season's historic event.
It wasn't just a visit for nothing. Nemechek was there to join sailors at the base for a special luncheon as part of the Navy’s prestigious NEY Award inspection. The event celebrated the base’s bid for Naval Galley of the Year, showcasing excellence in food service and teamwork.
During the visit, Nemechek connected with sailors and also had time to unveil a NASCAR simulator in the base's Liberty Center, offering the sailors a tip or two as they attempted their laps.
Other images shown by NASCAR show the Legacy Motor Club star being given a tour of the base, and checking out some of the choppers at their disposal.
When Nemechek returns, he'll be aiming for a good result at the track in 2026. Particularly given his strong record on road courses throughout his career.

NASCAR bullish ahead of 'best sporting event' in 2026
Speaking when the race was announced in July, Ben Kennedy, NASCAR's Executive Vice President and Chief Venue and Racing Innovation Officer claimed that he was confident the weekend would be the best sporting event on the calendar.
“What a special way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Navy, 250th anniversary of our country and put on what is going to be undoubtedly the most anticipated event of 2026," he said.
"I’m bullish on it being the best sporting event of the year."
Elsewhere at the time, Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan added: “NASCAR embodies the very best of the American spirit through speed, precision and an unyielding pursuit of excellence.
“Hosting a race aboard Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of naval aviation, it’s not just a historic first, it’s a powerful tribute to the values we share: grit, teamwork and love of country.
"From the flight deck to the finish line, this collaboration reflects the operational intensity and unity of purpose that define both the United States Navy and NASCAR.
"We’re proud to open our gates to the American people, honor those who serve, and inspire the next generation to step forward and serve something greater than themselves.”
