TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss has issued a statement after Spire Motorsports - a team TWG co-owns - was caught up in NASCAR's latest lawsuit.

Late last week, Joe Gibbs Racing filed a lawsuit against Chris Gabehart, claiming that their former Director of Competition "embarked on a brazen scheme to steal JGR’s most sensitive information and use it for the benefit of a direct competitor in NASCAR - Spire Motorsports".

Since then, Gabehart has responded and dismissed the claims as 'baseless', Spire has confirmed his appointment as the organization’s Chief Motorsports Officer, and Joe Gibbs Racing has added Spire to their lawsuit filing.

On top of all of that, Joe Gibbs Racing has also sought a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction that Gabehart must "cease and desist working or performing any services for Spire similar to those he provided to JGR for the 18 months following February 9, 2026”.

Now, however, Towriss has hit back at the accusations being levelled at Gabehart and Spire with an emphatic statement shared by FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass.

Dan Towriss hits back at Joe Gibbs Racing

“I feel very good about how Spire has conducted things,” Towriss said, via Pockrass.

“Spire doesn’t want data from Joe Gibbs Racing. It doesn’t have data from Joe Gibbs Racing. No point in time has it had data from Joe Gibbs Racing.”

Towriss continued, touching on a statement made by Gabehart in a filing this week in which he revealed some of the real reasons he decided to leave the organization.

Joe Gibbs Racing alleges he left because he asked for more power and was denied, but Gabehart says there were multiple factors, including claims that his new role as competition director was undermined in 2025 because the No. 54 car driven by Ty Gibbs was managed directly by Coach Gibbs, and "everyone in the organization knew it”.

“I’m sure Chris didn’t want to have to share some of those details,” Towriss added.

“But when they claim that Spire tortuously interfered, you know, in his contract, he has to say … these are the reasons why I left.

"He’s not there to just sling mud around.”

Further developments came in court today, with a judge opting not to rule on the temporary restraining order that Joe Gibbs Racing has filed for, outlined above.

Instead, per Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, the judge urged the involved parties to continue discussions over the weekend in order to try and find an amicable solution for all.

If that solution isn't reached, the judge will rule on the temporary restraining order on Monday afternoon.
