Carson Hocevar admitted “we got our ass kicked” after his FloRacing Night in America debut on Wednesday, but the NASCAR Cup Series phenom says he will be back again for more tonight (Thursday).
The 23-year-old sensation from Portage, Michigan is developing into a true crossover star for the sport, with his IDGAF attitude providing a breath of fresh air.
Earlier this week he was subbing shoulders with A-Listers at New York’s glitzy Met Gala, but just 48 hours later he was back to his roots driving a Spire-backed Super Late Dirt Model at Spoon River Speedway in Illinois. But it was a tough baptism of fire for the recent Talladega winner.
Hocevar started by finishing 12th of the 20 racers in his Qualifying Group but could then only finish 9th of 10 in his Heat and 11th of 12 in his Feature.
Carson had said earlier that he knew this season would not be easy, pretty much ruling out a championship challenge and saying he was just keen to see where he stacks up against pretty tough competition. Well, now he knows!

Hocevar typically honest after Dirt challenge
Afterwards Hocevar took to social media to provide a typically honest verdict on his night, admitting: “Got our ass kicked tonight lol. Just went wrong way on adjustments after qualifying. First time for all of us, strong field to contend with!”
Carson confirmed though that he will be back for more tonight (Thursday May 7, live on FloRacing) when the action moves on to Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania.
Hocevar back for more after quick turnaround
“I have to fly out now for cup sim tomorrow. I’ll be at the Longhorn Chassis merchandise trailer at 4pm tomorrow at Lincoln Speedway tomorrow.”
Once Hocevar has completed his Dirt challenges this week he will quickly move on to Watkins Glen, where he will prepare for Sunday’s Cup Series race (Go Bowling At The Glen, 3pm ET, FS1).
