General Motors has admitted that it is working to bring one of its NASCAR drivers over to Supercars for an end-of-season wildcard appearance.
The most famous recent crossover driver between the two series is, of course, three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen, who moved full-time to NASCAR in 2024.
Van Gisbergen raced in the Xfinity Series for a year in 2024 before moving up to the Cup Series for 2025 – winning five races in his debut year and smashing records for foreign-born NASCAR drivers in the process.
Success hasn't necessarily flowed both ways though, with Austin Cindric taking a rare end-of-season jaunt Down Under last year only to finish last in the Adelaide Grand Final.
GM Motorsports Supercars racing program manager Simon McNamara has now told V8 Sleuth that the manufacturer is looking to leverage its NASCAR operations to being a driver back out for the end of the Australian season again this year.

GM hopeful of another Supercars-NASCAR crossover
“Absolutely," he said. "I can tell you we’re very interested in bringing one of our NASCAR boys out for a wildcard.”
He did insist that testing time will be key in getting any entry organized, saying: "There’s cars within the fold and there’s enough people around and different staff that I could get to do something with it as a Team GM style of thing instead of one particular team, which is what we would ideally like to do. But we would never do it unless it was done properly.
“We’ve spoken to Supercars: if that was something we were going to do, could we get some dispensation about allowing them some more time to run and get their head around the car?
“There’s a whole range of things to play out before we can make it happen, but in an ideal world, yes, we’d love to do it.”
The identity of the driver, though, remains unclear. Cindric is very much under contract at Team Penske, a Ford team, while Jesse Love would appear to be a slam-dunk after his Super2 debut last year...if he hadn't just signed for Wood Brothers Racing for 2027, a Penske-linked Ford team.
