It's certainly fair to say that it has been a hell of a week for NASCAR Cup Series driver Ty Gibbs.

Just days after the bitter disappointment of being in contention for but ultimately missing out on an opportunity to win his first Cup Series race at Phoenix, the Joe Gibbs Racing man was involved in a violent and shocking wreck in a sprint car race on Thursday night.

The incident occurred on the dirt track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with Kyle Larson's High Limit racing series in action just ahead of NASCAR hitting the venue this weekend.

Thankfully, Gibbs escaped unscathed, but the replays are a hard watch, even knowing that fact.

Ty Gibbs 'fine' after shocking wreck

Following the wreck, Gibbs spoke to the media, confirming that he was okay and ready to go once again on Friday night, with High Limit Racing action continuing through until Saturday evening.

“I’m fine. I think Corey just got super loose in the slick there,” Gibbs told FloRacing.

“We’re good. Just unfortunate. We’ll come back up [Friday] and go get ’em.”

What is the High Limit Racing series?

Founded by Cup Series champion Kyle Larson and sprint car driver Brad Sweet (also Larson's brother-in-law) in 2022, High Limit Racing is a premier sprint car championship that races all across the United States.

Since its inception, the series has continued to go from strength to strength. This includes the introduction of a franchise-like system in 2025 with millions of dollars up for grabs, and striking a broadcast deal with FS1 to show multiple races in 2026.
