Bowman Gray Stadium legend Burt Myers is returning to the track next month at age 50 to run in the NASCAR Cup Series pre-season Clash.

Myers is an 11-time track champion in Modified racing, and made his regular season Cup Series debut last year at Martinsville.

He did compete at the Clash for the first time last year – not coincidentally, the first time the event had been held at the track where he's best known. Unfortunately, contact with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in a qualifier meant that he didn't make the final race.

Myers will be racing for Team AmeriVet, which will erase $250,000 in veteran debt on the Clash week thanks to its partners. The previous incarnation of the team wasn't quite so community minded, the infamous Money Team Racing project by Floyd Mayweather which never really got off the ground.

Myers: This means a lot to me

In a statement announcing his entry into the early February event, Myers said: “Getting another shot in the Cup car at Bowman Gray means a lot to me. Last time left us wanting more, and I’m grateful to Team AmeriVet and our partners for believing in me and giving us a chance to come back and do it right in front of these fans.”

Veteran crew chief Tony Eury Jr., running the No. 50 car, added: “Bowman Gray is a place where experience and discipline matter. Burt knows this track as well as anyone, and our focus is on giving him a car that can stay in the fight all night.”

Meanwhile, Casey Caudill, co-owner of Team AmeriVet and founder of The Casey Caudill Foundation, concluded: “We’re extremely excited to be heading into the Cook Out Clash and to be working alongside a proven competitor like Burt Myers. Events like this represent everything we love about racing.

"Hard competition, passionate fans, and the opportunity to showcase what our team is building both on and off the track. We’re proud of the momentum Team AmeriVet has right now, and we’re looking forward to a strong showing while continuing to use our platform to give back through the Foundation.”
