While there was no NASCAR Cup Series racing over the Easter weekend to get excited about, one Reddit user's theory regarding a 'scrubbed from the internet' son of the legendary Dale Earnhardt - Figgy - kept fans entertained.

It all started with a post on the r/NASCAR feed, with one user starting a thread titled 'Mandela Effect? Dale Earnhardt’s son Figgy'.

The post read: "I distinctly remember Dale Earnhardt having an additional son named Figgy Earnhardt alongside Dale Jr and Kerry. One of my other friends also swears he remembers this son.

"I feel like I’m going crazy searching online. I got curious one day a couple weeks ago about what happened to Figgy cause I didn’t remember him going into NASCAR like Dale’s other sons. I can find no trace of him online. I’m posting this here to see if anyone else remembers Figgy Earnhardt / knows why he seems to have been scrubbed from the internet."

Figgy Earnhardt goes viral

Of course, it's total nonsense. Earnhardt only had four children - sons Kerry and Dale Jr., and daughters Kelley and Taylor - but the NASCAR community has picked it up and run with it.

The original Reddit post now has over 1,000 upvotes and 347 comments, while a screenshot of the post on X has more than 1 million views.

Some teams have even got involved in the fun (RFK Racing, we're looking at you) and below, we've rounded up some of the best reactions we've come across so far.

NASCAR community responds to Figgy Earnhardt

Replying to the aforementioned post, one user on X shared his own theory on what the fictional Figgy was up to these days: "Figgy wasn't interested in cars or racing. He was an extremely high-IQ individual, made straight A's, went to MIT, and graduated with a degree in particle physics in 1998.

"He went on to invent the artificial gall bladder as well as the rotary engine and duct tape. He now lives off of his vast fortune on a small island off the coast of Macho Grande, Brazil."

Elsewhere, another X user shared a 'screenshot' of a video game in which the name Figgy Earnhardt appeared:

As mentioned, RFK Racing even got in on the act, sharing the following image with the caption: "Figgy was so close to getting the Harley J. Earl this year…"

NASCAR fans also bombarded a post regarding an 'Ask Dale Jr.' stream, asking questions such as: Where is Figgy? What happened to Figgy Earnhardt? and will Figgy make his return at the Daytona 500 next year?

There were also some incredible replies on the original Reddit thread, which is well worth a read. This included ones from user Blue8844, which read: "If another mod removes this, they are part of the Figgy coverup."

'Figgy Earnhardt' himself, user Figgy_Earnhardt, even wrote: "Why does no one remember me?"

Another user on a separate Figgy-related thread summed it up best: "This is what happens when we have just one week off from Cup racing..."

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reacts to Figgy Earnhardt

Dale Jr. himself has also now reacted to the ongoing joke on a Q&A episode of his Dale Jr. Download show on Tuesday.

"I don't know how these things come out of nowhere," Earnhardt Jr. admitted.

"Like it literally, from what I could tell, came from a single tweet or something, a post on Reddit, that there's this mythical son of Dad named Figgy that exists.

"I mean, the internet's just having fun, I guess, just being goofy," Earnhardt Jr. concluded, before ending: "I don't want to ruin this thing for them because they're having a good time with it."
