Ty Majeski has hit out at an officiating decision made at this weekend's Snowball Derby, which cost him the win of the race.
The 2024 NASCAR Truck Series champion was hit with a penalty for a restart infringement with just 12 laps to go but, rather than pulling over for the black flag, he simply kept driving and continued to the finish of the race.
There's no doubt that Majeski was the driver who crossed the finish line first at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. However, the officials took a dim view of him ignoring their penalty entirely, scoring him five laps down in 23rd place.
That demotion gave Stephen Nasse the win, with Dawson Sutton in a close second ahead of Jake Garcia.
Majeski: We won this race
Majeski's argument against his penalty is that the rules allow for drivers to increase their speed to the line, provided they stay in the box. He believed that he executed that successfully – but the officials clearly disagreed.
Speaking after the flag, Majeski said: “I feel like we won this race.
“With the way the rules are, you know, there’s a little bit more of a gray area with the way the rule’s written. Why is the last restart of the race any different from the restart on lap 217 if the rule is the rule? Clearly, the rule is not the rule.”
Majeski even went to technical inspection to protest the result, but in vain. “I’d like to talk to somebody," he said. "So, whoever race control is, I’d like to at least have a conversation about it."
