Fox has announced the release of an emotional documentary based around the death of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, which will air next month ahead of the Daytona 500.

The documentary, titled 'We've Lost Dale Earnhardt: 25 Years Later', will air on Thursday, February 12 at 10pm ET on FS1, quarter of a century on from the tragic crash on the final lap at Daytona which took the seven-time champion's life.

The documentary will include accounts from people involved including former NASCAR president Mike Helton, who delivered the titular phrase to the media.

A trailer for the documentary was also released on Tuesday, showcasing some of the other faces interviewed, including Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Patti Wheeler.

Remembering Dale Earnhardt, 25 years on
