NASCAR will have a 'conversation' with Carson Hocevar and Zane Smith in Atlanta, after their wreck last time out at Chicagoland.
Smith appeared to intentional wreck the polarizing Spire Motorsports star on Lap 32, taking himself out in the process, but NASCAR will take no further action after deciding that they lack the slam-dunk evidence that the wreck was deliberate.
It wasn't immediately clear what Hocevar had done to wind Smith up to the point of getting wrecked, beyond a long-running grudge being held after the Front Row Motorsports got caught up in Hocevar wrecking at Iowa last year.
NASCAR vice president of racing communications Mike Forde confirmed on the Hauler Talk podcast on Tuesday that a review into the incident determined that no penalty should be levied against Smith, but that the drivers will be talked to in the hauler at Atlanta in an attempt to head off any repeat incidents.

NASCAR to discuss Chicagoland incidents with protagonists
The same treatment will be given to Shane van Gisbergen and Austin Hill after their altercations during the same Chicagoland race, leaving NASCAR officials with a busy weekend ahead.
Speaking about Hocevar and Smith, Forde explained: “The same review [as Van Gisbergen and Hill] went into it, and nothing rose to the level of there being no doubt it was intentional, so we are opting to not penalize there. But we’ll be having a conversation in the hauler between those two drivers, too. So it’ll be a busy hauler.”
The wreck got a couple of long-time drivers agitated after the event, with Kyle Petty saying that Smith made just one, major mistake: he wrecked himself, as well as the driver he was aiming at.
Dale Jr: There's a history between Smith and Hocevar
Dale Earnhardt Jr., meanwhile, was more concerned about the reason for the wreck, saying on his Dale Jr Download podcast this week: “Zane Smith goes down in the corner and wipes out Hocevar, and he wipes himself out.
“I’m like, what in the hell? What was that? What was going on in the last couple of laps that started that? And honestly, I don’t know that anything was going on. Maybe Hocevar did a little air blocking or something that pissed him off. I asked TV to go back and look for something.
“If there was some contact or something that might’ve p***ed Zane off. But we know that they wrecked together at Iowa last year. And then I believe at some point during the Nashville race, Zane swiped at the 77 and missed. I know there was a race somewhere in my mind this year where Zane went after Hocevar and didn’t get him. There’s a history.”
He even went as far as to text Smith to ask what had happened and offer some friendly advice, saying: “I reached out to Zane and he didn’t reply back to me. But I was like, I’m sure he’s p**ed off.
“I’m like, ‘Dude, I like the aggression, but you can’t wreck yourself’. You know, you just can’t do that. There’s too much s**t, man. He puts too much effort into this to go out there and do that to himself. Not to mention the car and the crew, the ownership, and partners.”
