NASCAR star Chase Briscoe has revealed that he got a small bonus after winning his first Cup Series race of the year at Chicagoland.

Briscoe's Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief James Small has famously kept an eye on his driver's diet since they started working together, but presented him with an unexpected gift on the front stretch on Sunday.

The 31-year-old driver explained after the race that an offseason trip they took to the UK turned him onto Dairy Milk Buttons as an 'unbelievable' chocolate [note: he's correct], and that Small surprised him with a bag he'd been saving for a couple of months, promising them as a bonus prize if he ended the day in victory lane.

Briscoe held off a fast-charging Christopher Bell to lead home a JGR 1-2-3 at the flag, vaulting him up to eighth in points as the race for the Chase heats up.

Briscoe reveals off-season bonding trip

Asked in his post-race press conference if he'd got his chocolate, he said: "Yeah, I did. James brought it to me as I was standing on the front stretch. It was pretty good."

Asked for the backstory of the chocolate, and whether Small still keeps an eye on his diet, he said: "He closely watches it. I don’t do a great job still. We can cut that out.

"Yeah, we went to the UK this offseason as a bonding thing. They have these Dairy Milk Buttons, and they were unbelievable. I bought them here in the States through Amazon, and they’re not even close to the same.

"He went to the UK on the off week a couple of months ago, and he bought a couple. So he’s been – he hasn’t mentioned it to me until today. He said, 'Hey, I got those milk buttons. If you win, you can have them'.

"He brought them to me on the front straightaway. It was pretty good."
