Carson Hocavar has admitted that he was shocked by the number of people who knew who he was at this week's Met Gala.
The NASCAR star became the first person to represent the sport at the famous fashion event since Jeff Gordon well over a decade ago when he made a surprise appearance this week.
It appears to have been his incredible Talladega win and celebration – driving the car down the front stretch while sitting on the window and celebrating with the fans – that caught the eye, setting up a late invite for one of the sport's rising stars.
Hocevar revealed that the organizers called up NASCAR after the celebration went viral online and extended an invite, which he was only too happy to take them up on, with the help of Cassidy Towriss – the Cadillac F1 team chief brand advisor, and wife of TWG Motorsports (Spire's parent company) CEO Dan Towriss.

Hocevar opens up on Met Gala experience
Of Towriss' help, Hocevar told FOX's Bob Pockrass: "She knew exactly who to hook me up with. I went to Texas for the race [last weekend] and went and got fitted and got everything. She was a lifesaver in the whole deal."
He added: "It was luckily that my favorite [suit] was the gray one [which he wore] and it was the first one [he tried on]. And I didn’t want to be like, ‘I like the first one’ because they are going to think I just don’t want to try anymore on. ... They all liked the first one.
"They handled everything. I was like, ‘I have no preconceived notion, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. You just take care of me'."
Hocevar still hasn't met Sabrina Carpenter
While he didn't meet Sabrina Carpenter at the event (despite some rumors flying around on social media), he did appear to have a good time rubbing shoulders with the great and the good, and was more of an attraction than he expected.
"It was shocking how many people knew of NASCAR and knew of me," he said. "There was a bunch of people I got to meet. It was just an opportunity and experience that I never thought I would go to and enjoy.
"It’s a total different universe and world than I’m used to."
