NASCAR star Chase Elliott aiming to follow in father's footsteps by winning Brickyard 400

The NASCAR Cup Series hits Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, and Chase Elliott has a special goal in mind.

The Hendrick Motorsports star says that he would love to take his first victory at the track this time around as it would see him emulate his father, Bill, who won the Brickyard 400 in 2002.

Awesome Bill from Dawsonville beat the likes of Rusty Wallace and Matt Kenseth to the black and white checkered flag that day, and Elliott says that it is one of the first races he has memories of growing up.

As such, it would mean a lot for him to be able to add the Brickyard 400 to the list of races he has won at, with his best finish in the race so far being 9th back in 2019.

"That [Brickyard 400] was one of the very few races that I was old enough to even have a few memories from or even just be in the pictures of dad's wins, which was really, really neat," Elliott told the media at North Wilkesboro last weekend.

"Even then, I knew how big of a deal that was. It was evident in the way he acted and in the way that race was portrayed. Even as a child, you could telling the meaning behind it.

"So I think for that reason, it always has carried a little more weight than some of the others. I would love to check that box for a lot of reasons, with that one being the number one.

"But I have never won a big crown jewel race. I’ve been close on a handful of occasions, but never gotten across that bridge, so it would be as good of a place, if not the best, to make that happen.”
