The extended NASCAR world has begun to wrap their arms around Denny Hamlin and his family, after a fire at a property owned by the Cup Series star on Sunday night.
Local authorities revealed on Monday that the fire, reported to the emergency services around 6pm ET on Sunday night in Stanley, NC, claimed the lives of one of the two people hospitalized after the fire crew arrived at the scene.
Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department told media that the fire was reported at 6:19pm ET on Sunday, with both of the hospitalised individuals already out of the house when the fire department arrived. The names of the people involved have not been released.
Neighbours confirmed to WSOC-TV that Hamlin's parents live at the property in Stanley, NC, although the fire chief declined to answer when that was put to him directly.
Cause of deadly fire currently unclear
