Brad Keselowski has admitted that his RFK Racing team is on the lookout for a NASCAR Cup Series charter to buy for 2027, but is having some issues.
The team has leased its third charter from Rick Ware Racing (alternating between the pair of RWR charters) for the last couple of years, but won't be able to do so in 2027 as NASCAR rules forbid any charter being leased more than once in any charter agreement period (currently 2025 to 2031).
Ordinarily, RFK might attempt to buy one of RWR's two charters...but Legacy Motor Club already agreed a deal to do just that early last year.
Keselowski conceded on SiriusXM this week that while he and the team he co-owns would prefer to buy a third charter outright (a decision which would require an outlay in the region of $80m, after last year's 23XI and Front Row lawsuit settlement with NASCAR made the charters significantly more valuable), there are simply none on the market.

Keselowski admits charter purchase issues
"As it stands today, there are no charters that I’m aware of that are for sale," he explained. "If there was, we’d certainly talk to everyone we’d think could potentially sell one, and they know our interest."
He continued: “We’ll have to see. It’s still May. We really don’t need a charter until February of ’27. With that said, we really need a charter, and we know that.
“What we can’t control is that there is a finite amount of them; they’re not making more charters, so we can’t control the fact that somebody has to be willing to sell it first. So, we have to let the cards play out.”
He followed up on the comments with Motorsport.com later in the week, saying: “There’s always a path, you know. I don't think we're ready to, you know, announce anything of what our paths would be but we have different things we are looking at.
“I would say that our desire is to land a charter. That hasn’t happened to date, but we haven’t let go of that. If that doesn’t happen, we will find a way to do the best we can with all the commitments we have to our people and our partners.”
In theory, Ryan Preece would be the man to lose out if RFK were unable to secure themselves a third 2027 charter in some way. He drives the No. 60 car, which runs on the leased charter.
Of course, Keselowski is theoretically in a contract year...but it would be a true surprise if the team's co-owner wasn't back in the No. 6 in 2027.
