NASCAR star Denny Hamlin issues Corey Heim warning after Cup Series win at San Diego

NASCAR star Denny Hamlin has warned the Cup Series stars across the field that Corey Heim is going to be a major problem for them moving forward.

Hamlin made the comments following Sunday's race at San Diego, where the reigning Truck Series champion took his first-ever Cup Series victory in the No. 67 Toyota for 23XI Racing, for whom he is running a part-time schedule this season.

Heim has already landed a full-time drive with the team in the Cup Series from 2027, though, and after an impressive showing on Sunday, Hamlin believes that there is much more to come from him moving forward.

Denny Hamlin says Corey Heim is going to be a problem

“The driver part, the points are the points. Really happy for Corey and that whole team," Hamlin explained live on the Prime broadcast, assessing whether Heim's win or cutting Tyler Reddick's lead in the Cup Series standings to eight made him happier.

"Dave Rogers (23XI Competition Director) is doing such a good job, they are putting that fourth entry together and piecing together guys from around the shop and some development guys.

"We gave Corey an agenda this week that in each start this is our expectations, here’s what we want you to work on. I don’t think this was in the agenda for San Diego.

"He’s been good at road course racing anyway, as [Ryan] Blaney mentioned, he’s going to be a problem.”

When is Corey Heim's next Cup Series race?

Following his win on Sunday, Heim is next scheduled to compete in the Cup Series on July 5 at Chicagoland Speedway.

In total, the 23XI star is currently scheduled to make 12 Cup Series appearances this season, including the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 8.
