NASCAR Cup Series superstar Denny Hamlin has called out rival Ross Chastain over the beef that followed Sunday’s showdown in Vegas.

Hamlin was an observer as Trackhouse Racing star Chastain got into an altercation with former teammate Daniel Suarez after Sunday’s Pennzoil 400.

The issues between the two started on track when Chastain veered into Suarez's car after the black and white checkered flag. Naturally, Suarez did not take kindly to this and stormed over to Chastain to air his grievances.

At first, it looked like a heated but civil conversation, but then Suarez got closer to Chastain, and in return, was given a shove. The pair then had to be separated by team members and an official.

Once the dust had settled Chastain was initially reluctant to comment on what had gone down (Suarez by comparison was definitely more than happy to comment).

Chastain is ‘not going to give it to you’

Hamlin went in depth on the topic during his regular and much-anticipated Actions Detrimental podcast, and he was disappointed by the lack of juicy soundbites from Chastain.

“Sitting in this room, there’s three media members here. We would love to have a quote that we could run with,” he said.

“But it just feels like Ross is… when there’s something that happened, he’s just not going to give it to you.

“When there’s something that happened, for the sport, storylines, it would be fantastic if he would just give us something to work with. But he’s not going to let us in.”

Denny is built different and he admits it

While Chastain seldom provides a quote that reporters can run in big, bold headlines Denny admits he is very much the opposite. He’s built different.

“Well, I’m different,” Hamlin said. “I’m going to talk s*** anytime I can.

“If I have an opportunity or if I have a beef with a driver, I’m going to dig the knife when I can,” Hamlin said. “But that’s just my personality, and I do it with my closest friends.”

Since Hamlin provided his take on events, Chastain has now opened up on the topic, explaining why he felt so angry in the aftermath of that on-track contact.

Chastain breaks his silence (eventually)

He said: “In the moment, I definitely was hot and angry and would do things different if I had time to think about it.

“Yeah, definitely would not have swerved into him after the race. I didn’t mean to. I would do that different if I could go back, and then I wouldn’t shove him, for sure.

"I just was over the conversation that he was trying to have, wanted him to leave, asked him to leave, and he didn’t leave and wanted him to back up. [He] was too close, and just didn’t want to hear anything else he was saying because he wasn’t taking any accountability, and I wanted him to.

"I’ve known Daniel now for a long time and have lived it inside of our four walls [at Trackhouse], that there’s, in my opinion, not enough accountability, and there wasn’t post-race."
