NASCAR drivers have revealed what they expect from Wednesday night's Clash at Bowman Gray, which could be the coldest race in the sport's history.

The race has been postponed from Sunday to Wednesday, with heat races cancelled, thanks to a snowstorm which hit the Winston-Salem area, bringing several inches of snow to an area already struggling with the conditions after a prior storm last weekend.

Drivers and teams are now left contemplating how best to deal with the extremely cold conditions, with some concerned that they might have to try and find a way to keep warm in the car.

Tyler Reddick is one of those, admitting to The Athletic that he's not even sure if he'd be able to fit into his specially molded seat if he had extra layers on for Sunday's race.

NASCAR champ not worried by in-car temperature

He asked: “What do you even do? If you’re wrong, you’re going to be really hot.”

The 23XI Racing star added: “It’s never been cold enough to layer up in the car or even think about it, so I guess I’ll see how cold I am first and then go from there."

Some appear significantly less concerned, with Kyle Larson among them. “Honestly, I think it’ll feel fine for us inside the car," he said. "I wouldn’t be surprised if you still break somewhat of a sweat in there, just because of all the temps internally (from engine heat and other parts). It’s not windy in there because we’re going so slow.

“I just feel for the crews and mechanics and fans and NASCAR officials – everybody who is there outside in the cold.”

Of course, conditions inside the cockpit are a minor consideration compared to conditions outside, with Christopher Bell saying: “The tires might get slick or the track might get slick. Factors that don’t normally come into play, such as tire temperatures, would probably be really the only thing that’s unique to these circumstances from our seat.”
