The NASCAR Hall of Fame has taken Sunday to honor a departed legend of the sport, 'the Iron Man' Jack Ingram.

Ingram passed away in 2021 but would have turned 89 years old on Sunday, with the record-keepers of the sport's history taking the chance to remind people of one of the icons of the 1980s.

The Class of 2014 Hall of Famer won the NASCAR Sportsman series in 1972, '73 and '74 before that series was later made defunct by the inauguration of what is now the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series – which he also won twice in the 1980s.

Notably, the O'Reilly Series (as is it now) didn't hold its first season until Ingram was well into his 40s, meaning that his 31 wins all came between the ages of 45 and 50. Despite that limited time to rack up wins, that still ranks as sixth overall in the 40+ years the series has been running.

Jack Ingram: NASCAR legend

At the time of Ingram's passing, Hall of Fame director Winston Kelley said: "NASCAR has lost a true racer's racer.

"He was known unilaterally as 'The Iron Man' for his relentless, hard-driving style to win, along with the incredible schedule he kept, crisscrossing the country racing wherever there was a checkered flag to be captured.

"Ingram owned, built and worked on the cars himself and although his talent could have allowed him to compete in the premier series of NASCAR, he chose to stay in the series he knew and loved best."

The 2026 Hall of Fame class will be inducted on January 23rd, with Kurt Busch, Harry Gant, and Ray 'Mr Modified' Hendrick set to take their places in history.
