Kurt Busch will jump back into one of his old NASCAR Cup Series cars for a race later this year.
The NASCAR Hall of Famer will suit up to race in the 2026 Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) NASCAR Classic presented by Goodyear at Circuit de la Sarthe, where the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans is held.
The event runs from July 2-5 and will be a celebration to mark 50 years since the first NASCAR entries in the historic race, when Junie Donlavey and Hershel McGriff took their cars (a Ford and a Dodge Charger respectively) over to Europe for the showpiece event.
There was even a Cup Series car entered in the 24hr race as recently as 2023, with Hendrick Motorsports sending over a Chevy as the special 'Garage 56' entry to mark 75 years of NASCAR and 100 years of the race – driven by Jimmie Johnson, former F1 champ and part-time Cup driver Jenson Button, and two-time Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller.

Le Mans drive a 'dream come true' for Busch
Busch will drive the Chip Ganassi Racing Chevy that he won with at Las Vegas in 2020, which Ganassi later gifted to him to commemorate the win at his home track.
“Having this opportunity to race at Le Mans is a dream come true,” Busch said in a statement this week.
“There are only a few places in the world with the allure, prestige and pageantry of a motorsport venue like Le Mans. I’ve been fortunate to win the Daytona 500, compete in the Indianapolis 500, tour Nürburgring, experience Fuji Speedway, and now race at Le Mans. The kid racer in me gets to live out another dream.”
He added: “What makes this event even more special is that this is the 50th anniversary of NASCAR sending a car to compete at Le Mans. This is a one-and-only opportunity to race on the historic track with my race-winning Monster Energy Chevrolet from Las Vegas in 2020.”
The NASCAR Classic will run over three days during the 2026 Le Mans Classic weekend, with two qualifying sessions and a trio of 35-minute sprint races.
The entry list includes some spectacular cars from NASCAR's history, including the very Ford Gran Torino that Donlavey ran at Le Mans 50 years ago, and a pair of 2009 Ford Mustangs driven by the late Greg Biffle.
