NASCAR Cup Series rookie Connor Zilisch has revealed his favorite memories of the late Kyle Busch, one of which shows just what a class act he really was.

The emotional outpouring since Busch's sudden passing at the age of 41 last Thursday has been immense, and there have been some great stories told about him both on and off the track.

Speaking to the media at Charlotte Motor Speedway over the weekend, Zilisch revealed a classy moment from Busch after he lost out on the Xfinity Series championship last season.

Zilisch had dominated the year with a record-breaking 10 victories, but lost out on the title to Jesse Love in the championship race at Phoenix.

Connor Zilisch reveals Kyle Busch text message

Asked for his favorite memory of Busch, Zilisch revealed that Busch took the time to reach out to him after that event, offering him words of encouragement and showing that behind his 'Rowdy' on-track personality there was another, softer side to the man.

"He texted me after I lost the championship last year and just told me how proud he was of me and just how far I'd come," Zilisch recalled when speaking to the media over the weekend.

"That meant a lot. You know, he didn't have to reach out and do that.

"He wrote a few paragraphs and just kind of gave me some confidence after what was a really tough day for me, so that one meant a lot."

Zilisch's funny Kyle Busch memory

As well as that touching message, Zilisch also had a funnier memory of Busch to share, which took place earlier this season ahead of his first race as a full-time Cup driver.

"And then we were at the Daytona 500 this year and we do a driver meeting before the race," Zilisch continued. "I was in the driver's meeting. It was my first one as a Cup driver. I asked if we were the last OEM group to pit, what should the plan be… are we going to try and like block the track and try and keep track position after the pit cycle? I asked that question.

"It was the end of the meeting and everybody kind of went silent. Nobody was answering me. And Kyle speaks up and he goes, ‘no, just get the (expletive) out of the way’. It's my first time in one of these meetings. I'm a rookie and I'm just like, ‘oh okay… yeah, sorry.’ I was so embarrassed.

"But, yeah, that was just who Kyle was. He was unapologetically himself. Some people didn't like him. Some people liked him. But everybody respected him. That's the Kyle that we'll remember.”
