NASCAR legend Tony Stewart has teased fans that he could appear in further races this season by refusing to rule out the prospect.
The three-time Cup Series champion makes a highly anticipated return to NASCAR at Daytona International Speedway next month, set to race for Kaulig Racing and Ram in the Truck Series on a one-off basis in what is also their return to the sport.
However, the No. 25 Ram 1500 that Stewart will be driving at Daytona is up for grabs all season, with Kaulig Racing and Ram having launched the 'Free Agent Program' at the end of last year.
The Free Agent Program is designed to get some big names in the No. 25 this season, with it being made available to a rotating cast of drivers from all walks of motorsports.
Tony Stewart refuses to rule out further NASCAR races
Stewart is the first driver to run as part of the program, and so far, he has only been confirmed as running the one race. However, when speaking to the media this week, the racing legend was asked whether or not we could see him at any other NASCAR tracks this season.
And, whilst he certainly didn't commit to racing more than once, he didn't rule it out either.
“Well, Tim [Kuniskis, Ram CEO] neglected to tell me until today that there's a trophy and Tim likes to, I don't know how many of you guys know Tim Kuniskis, but he likes to dangle carrots,” Stewart told Oval Insider and other media.
“I would love to sit here and go, ‘Man, this is just one and done’. I would say my answer is, I don’t have an answer.
“I would say before we spoke today and before he mentioned that there was a trophy and an award for this particular truck [for] who gets the most points in it, I would have said this was one and done.
"But let’s just say I’ll leave it open-ended at this point. Thank God my wife's not here or I’d have a book or shoe or something flying at me right now.
“But we'll just leave it open-ended at this point for a while.”
When is Tony Stewart's comeback NASCAR race?
Stewart's highly anticipated NASCAR return is scheduled for February 13 at Daytona International Speedway.
The race, titled the Fresh From Florida 250, is set to start at 7:30pm ET and will be broadcast live on FS1, with radio coverage also available on SiriusXM and NASCAR Racing Network.
