Don't make plans for Sunday just yet.
If the weather falls just right (or, indeed, just wrong) on Saturday, fans could enjoy the spectacle of all three national NASCAR series running on the same day on Sunday.
The weather forecast for Atlanta has had NASCAR chiefs looking cautiously at the skies, and carefully at their schedules, with rain expected to hit EchoPark Speedway early this weekend.
The weekend at Atlanta is already set up in a slightly unusual way, with the customary Friday night Truck Series race moved back a day to form a Saturday double-header with the O'Reilly Series, both preceded by Cup Series qualifying bright and early at 11am.
Risk of rain for NASCAR racing
While the forecast is getting better as the weekend approaches, possible rendering this whole issue moot, NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass revealed on Friday that teams were working on the understanding that all three races would take place on Sunday if Saturday's running was rained out.
Writing on Twitter, Pockrass explained: "Forecast improving for Saturday, 40% rain 12-7pm, 55% after that. Contingency plans fluid so take this for what it's worth ... in Truck garage, the understanding is if both races postponed, triple-header Sunday order would be O'Reilly-Cup-Truck. If one race postponed, then it is in the morning before Cup."
As previously mentioned, Cup Series qualifying is scheduled for 11am ET, with the Truck Series' Fr8 Racing 208 set for 1:30pm and the O'Reilly Series' Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 pencilled in for a 5pm ET green flag.
At time of writing, forecasts show a near 70 per cent chance of rain for much of the early morning before a drier spell – 35-40 per cent chance of rain – from 10am through noon, before the risk of precipitation hikes back up above 60 per cent at 1pm. That drops to around 50 per cent in the mid afternoon, but that significant risk should linger throughout the evening.
In short, exactly what we said before. Keep Sunday open, it could be an absolute racing bonanza.
