NASCAR outfit Richard Childress Racing has announced it will suspend the use of Kyle Busch's car number and keep it reserved for his son, Brexton.

Busch tragically lost his life at the age of 41 on Thursday, leaving behind his wife, Samantha, and two children, Brexton, aged 11, and Lennix, aged four.

Brexton is an avid racer in his own right, having begun his racing career at the age of five in the Beginner Box Stock division at Millbridge Speedway, and he hasn't looked back since.

It took young Brexton just one month to pick up his first-ever victory, which came at Mountain Creek Speedway, and since then, the accolades have continued to rack up. That includes winning his first career Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shootout Jr. Sprint Championship in January 2025.

Richard Childress even revealed previously that he had got his eye on the young talent already, having signed him up to a $100 bill contract when Richard Childress Racing signed his father.

Richard Childress Racing retires Kyle Busch number

Now, Richard Childress Racing has confirmed they will no longer use the stylized No. 8, and that it is waiting and ready for when Brexton is ready for NASCAR.

"Richard Childress Racing has elected to suspend use of the No. 8 and will run the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond," a team statement read.

"Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylized No. 8 and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did.

"The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing."

Austin Hill is the driver replacing Busch at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend.

At this stage, it is unconfirmed whether or not that will be a permanent move.
