NASCAR star Tyler Reddick has revealed that his 23XI boss Michael Jordan being trackside at Darlington did not influence his decision to gut it out despite issues with his car on Sunday.

Reddick qualified on pole for the Goodyear 400 and went on to win the race, earning his fourth victory from the opening six races of the Cup Series season, but it was a far less straightforward afternoon than it sounds.

From lap one, Reddick's No. 45 Toyota was suffering with an alternator issue, meaning he had no driver cooling aids, such as his cool suit, working during the race, which just so happened to be the hottest event of the year so far.

Did Jordan influence Reddick's decision to stay in the car?

Reddick revealed post-race that conditions inside the car had been 'brutal', but insisted that Jordan being at the track did not play a part in his decision to continue racing.

"No, it’s funny, I didn’t know Michael was there until I saw him on the frontstretch," Reddick told the media at Darlington Raceway.

"Y’all got to see him all day, but I didn’t know he was there. So even more glad I decided to cut it out, honestly."

Reddick: Darlington was brutal

Asked what it was like in the car throughout the race, the driver of the No. 45 Toyota revealed: "That was brutal!"

"I knew that I was in a really good place in the car comfort-wise to be able to manage the car, manage my situation and just take care of the right side and everything.

"I was definitely worried that with all that stuff off and just ... I’ve never really run visor-up, but I had to because I had nothing coming to me. If I had my visor down, I was just going to be cooking and [my] visor fogging up from my sweat.

"I mean, I was getting dirt and rubber in my eyes that whole last run. I had to kind of deal with that as I ran just to kind of get some air coming to me. Yeah, to fight through that was not easy.

"But I don’t know, I was just in that place. I was willing to give up everything to have a shot at winning this race because I’ve wanted to win here for so, so long, so bad."
