Well, this might be an issue.
There were some concerns when NASCAR revealed that its annual weekend at Watkins Glen would be moving forward in the schedule from August to May for the first time since its 1986 return to the calendar.
Some fans were baffled by the move, warning that taking a chance on early May weather in the Finger Lakes was an unnecessary risk which could be detrimental to one of the season's four road course races.
Those fears may not have been unfounded. Despite a midweek burst of sunshine that means that Tuesday's temperatures are up in the low 80s, it's forecast to drop immediately to 50 degrees and rainy on Wednesday.

Weather forecast for NASCAR racing at Watkins Glen
Every subsequent day of the week is forecast a greater than 50 per cent chance of rain [via Accuweather], with the conditions set to be at their worst on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – AKA. the three days NASCAR has scheduled its races.
The good news is that wet weather tires are very much available to teams, so as long as the rain isn't too heavy (Sunday is forecast for the heaviest rain of the weekend, at over 9mm), there will still be races to watch.
Perhaps good for those at home, not so good for for the 100,000 or so fans expected to be in attendance, including a number who plan to camp at the track.
Then-NASCAR exec Jusan Hamilton specifically mentioned those campers when defending the schedule change last year, saying: "The weather for camping should be great, and I think we'll be able to put on a really good show that time of year."
Temperatures in the 50s and rain showers don't sound like ideal camping conditions.
He also said: “We look at a lot of data at all our venues, and weather is always certainly a consideration. You look at that time of the year, it says on average lower 70s during the day, chance of rain is relatively low even compared to August.
"Being up there recently in May, still have folks that live in that area, it typically feels like summer in May. I don’t see a huge risk in having the race that time of year.”
While everyone understands that NASCAR is an outdoor sport, and that the weather will sometimes intervene (who expected Bowman Gray to be covered in snow in February!?), the move to pull Watkins Glen forward three months on the calendar may have backfired immediately in exactly the ways that organizers were warned about.
Hopefully the rain will stay light and this will all look like a bit of needless complaining by the end of Sunday. If not though, it'll be interesting to see what NASCAR does with the race for 2027.
