NASCAR veteran Stewart Friesen will return to the sport for 2025, after missing a large chunk of last season.
Truck Series driver Friesen was badly injured in a fiery wreck during a Super DIRTcar Series event in July, fracturing his pelvis and right leg, which required surgery.
The 42-year-old's wife, Jessica, later revealed that doctors reconstructed his pelvis, right leg tibia and fibula, also treating a fractured C7 vertebra and a fractured left hip, keeping him in hospital for nine days.
Friesen was speaking on SiriusXM’s 'The Morning Drive' on Thursday, revealing that he's been putting in simulator sessions and expects to compete in next month's season opener at Daytona.
Friesen: I'll be back at Daytona
The driver of the No. 52 Halmar Friesen Racing Toyota told the radio show: “It’s going very well. The last month, I’ve been making some leaps and bounds.
"No more crutches, no more cane, walking pretty normal and just trying to work out as much as I can. Still doing a lot of physical therapy and anticipating a return at Daytona here in just over a month.
“I feel great. I’ve done some sim over at TRD in Salisbury, (North Carolina) a few times. I had another session yesterday morning that went really well and really, really looking forward to getting back into action and getting back to normal and getting rolling here to start the season.”
Christopher Bell filled in for Friesen in the first race after the injury, before Kaden Honeycutt jumped into the car for the rest of the season, earning a Championship 4 berth in the process.
