NASCAR champion Brad Keselowski has been left walking with a frame after a skiing accident in which he broke his leg.
The 41-year-old had surgery on the injury on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery, with doctors tentatively predicting that he'll be ready for the season-opening Daytona 500.
Keselowski thanked his 'excellent' medical team on social media, in a post showing him taking a few ginger steps with his new walking frame, and joked that he's now 'bionic'.
His RFK team first shared the news in a statement on Friday, leading with a note that their thoughts remain first and foremost with the friends and family of Greg Biffle after his tragic death, adding that they were sharing the Keselowski news 'in the interest of transparency'.
Keselowski expected to make 'quick recovery'
The team's statement read: "First and foremost, our hearts remain heavy with the news of yesterday's tragic events. The RFK Racing family, as well as the NASCAR community as a whole, continues to keep those close to the Biffle family and all those affected in our thoughts.
"Albeit untimely, we feel that in the interest of transparency we share RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski suffered a broken leg while on a ski trip with his family Thursday. Keselowski has successfully completed routing surgery, and doctors expect a quick and full recovery."
Keselowski, adding to the statement, said: "I'm grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me. My attention now is fully on recovery. I'm motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona."
In his own post later, he wrote: "Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona. Bonus - I'm now bionic!"
