Most of the world is focused on Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin as that huge NASCAR court battle rages down in Charlotte. But not all the time.

Jordan and Hamlin, courtesy of their 23XI Racing team, is engaged in a bitter showdown with the sport as we enter day four of the big antitrust trial.

As the argument raged in court on Wednesday, the focus of a good portion of those in attendance turned to another key figure, a respected NASCAR media insider.

Bob Pockrass and the NASCAR Rule Book

The moment came when Jeffrey Kessler - attorney for 23XI and fellow plaintiff Front Row Motorsports - mentioned the NASCAR Rule Book. Reporter John Newby takes up the story:

“One funny note from the early session. Jeffrey Kessler said that he doesn’t believe anyone has read the entire NASCAR Rule Book. Many people in the courtroom then turned and looked at Bob Pockrass.”

Pockrass of course is the longtime word when it comes to NASCAR - having been lead insider for the likes of The Sporting News, ESPN and now FOX.

Bob has spent the last couple of days explaining to fans many of the nuances of NASCAR contracts and charters, he is an incredible font of knowledge when it comes to stock car racing.

He admitted before the trial began that he makes regular trips to the courthouse to sift through documents which might have relevance to his role. As well as being a walking encyclopedia when it comes to how the sport works and operates.

This is how the great journalists operate - hard work allied to savvy and instinct. Bravo, Bob.
