NASCAR Cup Series team will have to factor in a mandatory change for this weekend’s action at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta.
With the dust now settled on another iconic Daytona 500 in Florida last weekend, the big show moves on to Georgia for the Autotrader 400 (3pm Sunday, FOX). And we have some new rubber to bring to the party.
NASCAR tire Goodyear has confirmed it will bring a new right-side tire to Atlanta, and will pair it with the same left-side tire that has raced in Atlanta since 2023. The move is with a view to aligning setups with other tracks of a similar length.
Since the track at EchoPark was repaved and reconfigured to become a superspeedway in 2022, it has had an extremely smooth surface that does not create much tire wear.
“Typically, the tires we use at EchoPark Speedway are only used at this track, and its smooth surface doesn’t naturally lead to much tire wear,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager.
“As such, we develop tires that encourage wear, and we have seen consistently good racing here since it became a superspeedway.”
O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Truck Series teams will run the same tire setups as they have at this track since 2022 - no changes for either category.
