Katherine's Legge's hopes of being just the sixth driver to run Double Duty on Memorial Day weekend have received a timely boost.

Legge is following in the footsteps of some all-time greats as she attempts to run 1,100 racing miles this coming Sunday – with only Tony Stewart ever finishing on the lead lap of both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600.

One of the dangers for Legge's Double Duty bid specifically was that she doesn't run full-time in either IndyCar or the NASCAR Cup Series, leaving her at risk of being bumped from the field in both races.

Qualification for the Indy 500 was confirmed some time ago, with an unusually low number of entries meaning that there was no iconic Bump Day this year (Legge will start that race 26th).

Now the Coca-Cola 600 entry list has been released, and it's fantastic news: there are only 39 names on it, which means Legge is locked into the field for the longest race in NASCAR.

There are two more Open entries joining Legge on the list, namely Corey Heim in his Coke 600 debut and Timmy Hill, in the race for the first time since his full-time season in 2020.

The logistics: What does ‘Double Duty’ timetable look like?

The Indy 500 is up first on Sunday May 24 with a start time of 1245 Eastern (0945 Pacific). The race typically lasts for around three hours.

The next challenge for Legge will be hotfooting from Indianapolis to Charlotte - flight time is normally around 90-100 minutes from gate to gate, assuming good weather.
That good weather is very much required with Legge’s schedule not leaving much wiggle room. The scheduled start time for NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 is 6pm Eastern.

It is the tightest of turnarounds, bookended by that sheer physical challenge of 1100 miles of elite racing. We wish Katherine the very very best of luck.
