NASCAR driver William Sawalich has been taken to the hospital after being involved in a wreck at Talladega Superspeedway.

All three national NASCAR series are in action at the Alabama track this weekend, with the Xfinity Series' United Rentals 250 having taken place on Saturday evening.

The unfortunate incident occurred on lap 45 of the race, with as many as five drivers involved after Leland Honeyman got turned in the No. 70 in turn one. This led to him making contact with Connor Mosack and Connor Zilisch, with Mosack then shooting up the track as a result and into Sawalich in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Sawalich, Mosack and Dean Thompson - another driver caught up in the accident - were all unable to continue in the race, with Mosack and Thompson evaluated and released from the infield care center shortly afterward.

However, NASCAR has now confirmed that Sawalich has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

William Sawalich health update

Since NASCAR confirmed that news, there have been no official health updates as of yet from the stock car racing series.

However, FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass has shared positive news regarding the 19-year-old Minnesota native.

According to Pockrass, after being assessed at the hospital, Sawalich was released.

Images shared on X by CBS Sports' Steven Taranto highlight the extent of the hit that Sawalich took, with extensive damage done to the No. 18 Toyota.
