Dale Earnhardt Jr. has warned against expecting a rapid turnaround in fortunes for Kyle Busch after his No. 8 team switched crew chiefs this week.
Jim Pohlman lasted just ten NASCAR Cup Series races in the role, concluding with Busch's first top-ten finish of the year at Talladega on Friday night (after a run of five straight races outside the top 20).
Pohlman won't be leaving the organization entirely, but instead moved to a new role in the RCR competition department as Andy Street takes over as the No. 8's crew chief for the remainder of the season
Speaking on his Dale Jr. Download podcast this week, the NASCAR Hall of Famer warned that – from experience – getting desperate with mid-season changes doesn't always work out immediately.

Dale Jr.: Don't expect quick Kyle Busch bounceback
“There’s been a lot of radio chatter that’s become public. … That’s not uncommon,” the two-time Daytona 500 winner said. “It’s just highlighted because it’s Kyle Busch, and he’s struggling unlike Kyle Busch.”
He added: “I’ve been in this situation, when you make a change mid-season. It is really hard to find positivity and try to figure out how to be hopeful that things are going to improve.”
Earnhardt also spoke on Pohlman – who used to work for his JR Motorsports team – being moved out of his role after just ten races, saying: “Jim’s an awesome, awesome guy. Very, very passionate. But now, just a handful of races into the season, it’s not working.”
Busch, notably, is on by far the longest winless streak of his career, which extended past 100 Cup Series races during Pohlman's brief tenure as his crew chief.
Kyle Busch frustrated by NASCAR critics
“It’s frustrating,’’ Busch said last week of those who would question his effort or dedication. “Because I feel like I’ve done nothing except positive things in the time in which I’ve been at RCR.
"The last four years I’ve done nothing but work as hard as I could possibly do. There’s a lot of great people there and a lot of smart people there as well in [team owner] Richard [Childress] and Mike [Dillon] and all those guys have given us all the resources and tools to go out there and succeed. It’s just not quite come together with the results of winning.
“The first year it did, but it’s trickled off since then. But there’s nothing that stands out to me other than going there to win races and be competitive."
