Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch was among the eight NASCAR drivers hit with penalties during Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway.

It was a relatively quiet day for officials in terms of penalties as Chase Elliott won the Cook Out 400, but some still fell foul of the rules during the 400 laps of action, with Busch and his team guilty of a tire violation on lap 88.

During the incident, Busch accelerated away from his pit box, hitting a loose tire that had been taken off his car and sending it flying down pit road, with it eventually striking Connor Zilisch's No. 88. Fortunately, nobody was harmed, but NASCAR officials acted swiftly, hitting Busch with a tail-end penalty and sending him to the rear.

Elsewhere at Martinsville, Justin Allgaier and the No. 48 crew at Hendrick Motorsports were also hit with a tire violation on lap 288, while later in the race, Austin Hill and the No. 33 crew at RCR were hit with a safety violation.

On top of those, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Cody Ware both found themselves hit with speeding penalties during Sunday's action, while John Hunter Nemechek and his team were punished for having too many crewmembers in contact with the pit service area.

Zane Smith and Riley Herbst were also penalized at Martinsville for pitting before pit road was open.
