Who would have thought it - legendary NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick is obsessed with TikTok.
That's according to Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Larson, who has revealed that his 76-year-old boss frequently shares videos of his non-NASCAR crashes with him, attempting to sway him away from racing in sprint cars.
Hendrick is known to have resisted his drivers competing in any race car outside of the NASCAR Cup Series in the past due to safety concerns, but when Larson arrived at the team, given his prowess in sprint cars, his strict rules were eased.
That doesn't stop him from sending Larson TikToks of sprint car crashes, however, most of which are his own!
Larson: Rick Hendrick always on TikTok
Larson made the reveal earlier this month after both he and fellow Hendrick Motorsports stablemate Corey Day were involved in separate wrecks at the Hangtown 100 at Placerville Speedway in November.
Reflecting on the double incident in the sprint car race, one of the hosts on the Drivers Project podcast quizzed Larson on how Hendrick had responded to the double crash.
“So I saw we had a party a few days later, and I was talking to Rick, he’s like, ‘You crashed, right?’. I’m like, ‘Yeah, did you see Corey’s?’
“He's like, ‘No, I haven't seen Corey's'. I was like, well, ‘Don't go look for it'.”
Larson continued, revealing Hendrick’s surprise obsession with TikTok, specifically finding footage of sprint car crashes and sending it to his star driver to remind him of the dangers.
“Rick has this thing. So he's on TikTok all the time,” Larson continued.
“He’s on TikTok all the time. The only time he texts me is, he'll send me…I’ll just show you, I’ll just pull it up…he’ll send me TikToks of me crashing sprint cars [and] all these TikToks of just people crashing.”
Recalling Hendrick sending him a TikTok of David Eldora’s scary wreck at Eldora Speedway in the High Limit Series, Larson continued: “He said, ‘Good to see how safe this is, not’.
“So yeah, he loves to send TikToks of me crashing sprint cars from like years before and be like, ‘Are you okay?’ and I’m like, ‘Rick, that was from like six years ago’.”
