NASCAR star Ryan Preece has joked about racing against Richard Childress at an upcoming race in New England.
Preece and Childress will both be in the field for the New England 900 next Friday, the race taking place at Stafford Motor Speedway, an old haunting ground of the RFK Racing driver in his early years.
The Connecticut native joked this week that he'd already told the 80-year-old NASCAR legend to 'hold his watch', calling back to an infamous 2011 incident when the then 65-year-old Childress told his grandson Austin Dillon to hold his watch before wading in to fight Kyle Busch.
Childress and Busch joked about that incident in later years, with the latter even being presented with his own watch to hold when he signed with Childress' race team over a decade later.

Preece: We're going to have a blast at Stafford
Next week's race, a Cleetus McFarland-organized event, will feature a couple more NASCAR figures, including Jesse Love and Ty Dillon as well as Preece and Childress.
After joking about whether he and Childress would race each other hard, the 35-year-old said: "He's coming to my place!
"Actually, I was talking to him a few weeks ago because I was pretty pumped when I saw that he was going to run in it, I'm happy he's going to enjoy that experience, but he told me he had actually gone there and raced there way back in the day.
"So that was interesting to find out. What I'll say is, Crown Vics are like big go-karts. Like an adult version of a go-kart.
"I'm gonna enjoy the experience racing with all those guys, I hope they enjoy the New England experience of all the race fans up there, and we're going to have a blast."
