You'd have made a lot of money betting on this at the start of the year: Richard Childress is going to race in a Cleetus McFarland event in 2026.
The 80-year-old team owner had a decently long career in the NASCAR Cup Series but, notably, that career ended all of 45 years ago.
YouTube sensation McFarland hosts a series of All-Star races around the country, racing in an old Crown Vic, and revealed in a recent video that Childress will be putting a helmet on and lining up at one of those events at Stafford Speedway in Connecticut.
Childress, whose team signed McFarland to a part-time NASCAR O'Reilly Series deal earlier this year, isn't the only notable name set to turn up for the July race – with Jesse Love also revealed as a competitor.

In the video uploaded this week, McFarland said: "July 17th is our Crown Vic Stafford race. Richard Childress is racing in it. The Richard Childress. That's shocking, right?
"The other day I heard that Richard Childress was in sort of a high-speed fender bender, cos apparently he drivers aggressively. The guys at RCR have been beating me up saying 'you've gotta get Richard in a race, you gotta do it, he'll do it'.
"So I know he still drives aggressively, I hit him up and I said 'hey, if you wanna race Stafford, we'll do it', and he just texted me and said 'I'm in'. I think we still should put like a yellow triangle, like 'don't hit Richard Childress when you're racing'.
"If you're going to Stafford, we also have Jesse Love and Downforce Danny racing, so we've got three guys from RCR who are racing. I'm waiting to hear if Ty Dillon might race, but Stafford's going to be ridiculous."
