Kyle Busch has opened up on his impending free agency, insisted that he doesn't worry too much about what his future holds.
Busch left Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of the 2022 season after a 15-year partnership which produced two NASCAR Cup Series championships and at least one win in every single season, leaving for Richard Childress Racing.
That period got off to a fantastic start, with three wins in 15 races, but the following 93 races have seen him frozen out of victory lane – with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2026 season.
The two-time Cup champion told FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass that it would likely take breaking that winless streak to convince him to stay at RCR, citing his 'competitive nature'.
Busch: If I'm here, great. If not...
Asked whether he worried about his future, Busch explained: "I don't really worry, it kind of is what it is. I've always told Samantha the same thing: you can't worry about things you can't control, all you can do is go out there, do what you can do, and the good lord will take care of the rest. If I'm here in future, great. If I'm not...[makes peace sign]."
On what could motivate him to stay at his current team, he added: "The competitive nature in me, you've got to get back to victory lane. It's all about winning races, it's all about being able to capitalize on those days, and having a good team around you. You win from top to bottom, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Jim [Pohlman] has for us, and what we can do with that."
He continued: "It's going to take a little bit of time before you get a sense of where you're at. I've always kind of said, once you get to the Coke 600, that's sort of like where you'll fall in the season and where your points are and where you kind of stack up.
"You can go about one or two places higher or lower than where you're at currently. I would say that would be a good time to start judging."
